Our talented, experienced teaching artists are planning a rich, fun, and rewarding Online Fractured Fairy Tales Camp experience this summer! We will use a combination of the Zoom video-conferencing platform, which we like for its reliability, ease of use, and option for campers to use virtual backgrounds as desired for privacy purposes, (or just for fun!), and “Camp In A Box” craft packets that will be available for curbside pick-up at the theater!

Claire Chandler will be our FFT Camps Lead Teacher. Returning campers will recognize Claire from her many summers at Live Arts camps, where her work always garners top scores in our post-camp surveys. Claire has this to say about 2020 FFT Camps Online:

“As an educator and a parent I know how much this spring has been a disruption in the lives of our kids. My aim this summer is to provide a creative outlet and to nurture the social and emotional well being of our campers. Prolonged screen time is a worry for all of us, but Fractured Fairy Tales Camp will be just as active and interactive as if we were together in the Live Arts space. Having used Zoom to teach this spring, I am both comfortable with the platform and confident that it will yield a fun and meaningful experience for your camper. I’m looking forward to making some really silly theatre and to building a theatre community with your camper.”

Jennie Bottas will be our FFT Camps Assistant! Jennie worked at our 2019 Mini Camps, and she was a huge hit with campers and parents alike. We feel so lucky to have such a quality returning staff! Jennie says this about this summer’s camp experience:

“I have been using ZOOM to teach this age group all spring in my capacity as a preschool educator and caretaker to elementary-school aged children, so I feel very comfortable with the platform. I’m really looking forward to fun with your kids this summer!”

A sample Daily Schedule is below. The invitation emails will be clear and simple for a parent or care-giving helper to assist campers in using.

Daily Schedule:

9:30 am-9:50 am: Daily Check in — Using a daily thinking question, scavenger hunt, and/or costume challenge, we will build our virtual theatre community and have some plain silly fun.

9:50 am-10:00 am: Screen-free wiggle break

10:00 am-10:30 am: Movement Block — Using story yoga, creative choreography, and theatre movement games, we will warm up our “actor’s toolbox.”

10:30 am-10:45 am: Screen-free wiggle break

10:45 am-11:15 am: Creative Block — Using “Camp in a Box” craft materials we will work on creating characters and exploring story elements.

11:15 am-11:30 am: Screen-free wiggle break

11:30 am-12 pm: Story Block — Using a traditional fairy tale as a jumping off point, we will work on our theatre-making skills with games and activities.

12 pm-12:15 pm: Warm Down — Phantom the Theatre Cat puppet will invite all campers to snuggle up with a favorite stuffed animal while he tells jokes and reads stories to close our active day.

On Friday the campers will present their original Fractured Fairy Tale over Zoom at 1:30 pm (to allow time for lunch, costuming, and a quick pre-performance check-in). You can join in and watch live, or the presentation will be recorded and you can watch later via the link we’ll share (or both!).
