Join the Live Arts Youth Theater Company in our groundbreaking and creative online production of SHREK The Musical JR! Our talented teaching artists will offer a rich, fun, and rewarding online camp experience, primarily using the Zoom video-conferencing platform, which we like for its reliability, ease of use, and option for campers to use virtual backgrounds for privacy purposes (and for fun!)

Adrienne Oliver will direct SHREK Camp. We are so happy to have her depth of knowledge, creative eye, and wonderful communication skills to help make this camp experience shine. Adrienne has this to say about SHREK Camp:

“Shrek is, at its heart, a tale of embracing the weird, the unusual, the challenges, and making magic of it. We see that compassion and bravery in the face of daunting circumstances produces lifelong friendships, laughter, and goodness in the heart of the community. Shifting to a virtual camp gives us the chance to explore these same values and test the might of our talents. I could not be more excited to shake-up the traditional camp experience and provide opportunity for every kid to shine like the magical creature they are! With deep consideration of community-building, attentive showcasing of performers, and creative instruction, we are building Charlottesville’s most innovative theatre camp experience! Like all good stories, this summer will go down in history. If Audra can belt in a bathrobe, we can surely boogie from our bedrooms. There’s never been a more important time to believe in the impossible.”

The amazing Kristin Baltes is our Musical Director for this camp for the sixth summer! We’re lucky to have the benefits of her talent, upbeat and professional style, and extensive teaching and music directing experience. Kristin says this about 2020 camps:

“I wouldn’t spend my summer anywhere else than getting to work with such talented and entertaining students! This summer will go down in history as being the most challenging, inspiring, and creative experience that any of us have done and I am so excited to work together with all of you! We are going to learn so much, have a BLAST, and delight ourselves with our performances! We will be creating something NEW and never done before! I am glad you are joining us on this journey…I promise you, we will be amazed at what we do!”

Jack Heaphy is our first-time choreographer! He has both attended and helped with the musical theater production camp in the past, and he’s spent the past several months working on an online-only choreography project. We know his energy, charisma, talent, and knowledge will be a huge asset. Jack says this:

“I think that working online actually opens many new doors when it comes to dance, and I’m extremely excited for this opportunity to creatively find new ways to use technology to our advantage!”
