Tech Camps for Teens
10am to 1:30pm, Ages 13-17
Camp 1: June 17th – June 26th
Camp 2: July 22nd – July 31st
Camp 3: August 5th – August 14th
Is behind-the-scenes your scene? This summer Tech Campers will work with Tech and Production Camp Staffs to support an online gallery of the various Production Camps’ work to share with parents, which will include video clips, recorded Zoom work, and more. No special tech know-how needed–we will work with the campers to make all this happen! In addition, Tech Campers will end camp with a number of completed projects and learning resources to help them on their way in both the virtual and real life production arenas.
The Tech Camp Daily Schedule will comprise a combination of shorter, focused synchronous learning opportunities, and assignments, activities, and learning materials to be used asynchronously (meaning on a camper’s own schedule during the day.)
10am-10:45am: Leaning Session 1 via Zoom
In this session campers will interact with their Tech Camp guide Sav Maive, with each other, and with a teaching artist who will provide a short lesson on one of the production disciplines such as stage management, set design, lighting design, costume design, etc.
10:45am-11am: Stretch Break
11am-11:45am: Learning Session 2 via Zoom
In this session campers will be provided with materials and direction to work on a project of some kind, like making a theater mask, putting together a sound file or lighting look, or building a small scale set. Sav and Tech Camp staff will work with campers to help them make use of materials they have at home.
11:45am-12:45pm: Lunch break and optional work time for morning assignments. On some days Tech Campers will be invited to observe short production meetings between Production Camp staff and Tech Camp staff.
12:45pm-1:30pm: Learning Session 3 via Zoom
In this session Tech Campers will join Production Campers as they work with Production staff to make the costumes, props, set, and lighting designs they’ll need to produce performance elements for their camp. Tech Campers will learn from real-time conversations and problem-solving and may be called upon to contribute thoughts, advice, or elements that can be shared online, like sound files or virtual background suggestions, etc.
(Each Tech Camp supports a different Production Camp, so tech campers can enroll in any and/or all of the three camps. Please contact Education Director Miller Susen at [email protected] with questions about this, or about the online format.)
